![]() We need better use of water resources, watershed development, rainwater harvesting and proper management of water by adopting advanced techniques. HAU VC professor B R Kamboj said, “We should save every drop of water. If the exploitation of natural resources continues in this manner, then in the coming time in Haryana, people may face acute shortage of clean water for drinking and there is a possibility of 30% reduction in agricultural production, he said. Therefore, availability of water for agriculture is emerging as a major problem. Due to over-exploitation of groundwater in areas of wheat-paddy crop-cycle, the water level is continuously depleting. Due to the ever-increasing consumption of water, the amount of water for the agriculture sector has decreased. Mohapatra said in a state like Haryana, the wastage of such a large quantity of water is a matter of concern. During the fair, one progressive farmer from each district was honoured for the best work done in the agriculture sector. However, Mohapatra joined online as the chief guest. Krishi Mela (Rabi) was organized offline for the first time after two years. So, farmers should adopt techniques developed by agricultural scientists to stop water wastage and use improved varieties of different crops as much as possible. Addressing farmers after the inauguration of Krishi Mela (Rabi) organized by Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, Mohapatra said water is an important resource for agriculture. Hisar: Poor management leads to wastage of about 70% of irrigation water, said Trilochan Mohapatra, director general, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and secretary, department of agricultural research and education.
